Energy Challenges in the 21st Century 2013-14
(Energy Challenges 2013-14)

Energy is a primary factor in economic and social development. World markets move on energy related events and consume large parts of a household’s budget. This class will examine the historical development of energy and how a new energy system is being rolled-out in the twenty-first century. The choices that society, politicians and businesses must make will be considered. The fundamentals of electricity systems are covered and consideration is given to how these shape policy choices and impact CO2 emissions. The persistence of fossil fuels will be discussed and the rise of renewable energy and energy efficiency as elements of the new energy system will be examined in detail.
